…WITH 4” OF FRESH SNOW, POWDER CONDITIONS AND SOME OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE OPEN TERRAIN IN THE EAST

Mother Nature has finally cooperated and Snowshoe Mountain has started a new season with powder conditions and plenty of room to ski and ride!

Snowshoe, WV—Mother Nature seems to have finally turned the page to winter, and Snowshoe Mountain Resort is taking advantage of some great winter weather to kick-off the 2009.2010 winter season. The resort began its 36th winter season Saturday morning at 9am. Four inches of fresh snow had already fallen, creating powder conditions across the resort’s 10 open trails. Snow is predicted throughout the day Saturday, and Snowshoe’s guests will be able to enjoy it with skiing and riding until 9pm. For the first time in 30 years, Snowshoe opened both the Basin and Silver Creek areas, totaling 38 open acres, some of the most extensive terrain available on the East Coast.

Resorts up and down the East Coast have suffered from the mild early season, with Snowshoe one of only four Southeast resorts with open terrain. Other resorts, including those are far north as New England, have less terrain and less desirable conditions than those found at Snowshoe this weekend. Snowshoe’s guests took advantage of those conditions, with several hundred making their way to the resort for Opening Day.

Leading up to Saturday, Snowshoe’s amazing snowmaking system was able to work its magic for almost 36 straight hours, beginning early Thursday afternoon. With the extra help from Mother Nature on Saturday morning, the resort opened with a 14-24” base across its open terrain. Freestyle enthusiasts were also rewarded with 4 terrain park features in the resort’s Powdermonkey Terrain Garden area. With great snowmaking conditions predicted throughout the week, as well as some more natural snow in the forecast, Snowshoe hopes to continue to expand its open terrain leading up to next weekend.

In addition to the on-the-snow fun, The Village at Snowshoe offers guests variety of dining and shopping options, as well as family fun at the Split Rock Pools and Big Top entertainment center facilities. Early Season lift tickets, available through Dec 17th, are priced at $55 or $25 just the night session. The resort’s terrific Ski Free/Stay Free deal, offering a free fourth day of lift tickets and fourth night of lodging, as well as free lift tickets for children 12 and under, is still available.
