March is coming in warm.

The change in the calendar didn’t trigger a change in the weather as the mild temperatures are sticking around for another day.

I think we say this every time the calendar flips but geez time is really flying by.

Today is shaping up to be a beautiful weather day for some spring skiing.

For the full details on the ski report, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.

There are six resorts open for play today.

Massanutten has temporarily suspended operations as they try to preserve their base for the upcoming weekend, while Canaan Valley has also suspended ski area ops for Wednesday and Thursday with operations to resume on Friday.

The Canaan Valley tube park will reopen on Thursday.

Those open today include App Ski Mountain, Bryce Resort, Cataloochee, Snowshoe Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Wisp Resort.

Along with Massanutten, Beech Mountain, and Timberline have suspended operations until later this week.

One big operational update we received this morning is that today will be the last day of the 2022-23 season for Cataloochee. The Maggie Valley resort has had a great season.

While we are still looking at the potential for some colder air this weekend, Ma Nature is going throw another curve ball at us over the next couple of days.

With today’s milder temperatures, most of the area will see the potential for some heavy rain overnight. We may deal with some pesky showers tomorrow, but then we could deal with some more rain and potential thunderstorms on Friday.

Cooler air moves in Saturday – especially in the northern part of the region. We anticipate some snowmaking as long as the window is open.

I mentioned it yesterday, but the resorts deserve a huge round of applause as they continue to fight the good fight to keep the season going.

Hopefully, they get rewarded with some cold air soon.
