Resort activities will be available for Thanksgiving weekend
Snowshoe, WV—Mother Nature has once again proved how fickle she can be, forcing Snowshoe Mountain to delay it’s Opening Day for the winter ski and snowboard season after an unusually mild fall. Snowshoe’s Opening Day was planned for Wednesday, November 24th, but the resort has seen only trace amounts of natural snowfall since early October, and has had very few chances to make snow for sustained periods. Forecasts do show cold air and possibly some natural snowfall moving into the resort’s area beginning late this week, and Snowshoe will be aggressive with snowmaking whenever possible. A new opening date is weather dependent, and Snowshoe will announce that date as conditions allow.
The resort will be operational beginning Wednesday, November 24th, offering guests a variety of amenities off the slopes, including several dining and shopping outlets, an indoor/outdoor pool facility, Green Zebra and Segway tours and the resort’s 15,000 sq. ft. Big Top Entertainment Centre. Snowshoe’s beautiful location and mountaintop Village will still provide a fun-filled destination for families and friends gathering for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and the resort’s Junction Restaurant will serve a traditional Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday.
Current forecast models do show more favorable weather conditions moving into Snowshoe’s area beginning late Thanksgiving Day. Whenever Mother Nature does send in the cold area, the region’s largest and more powerful snowmaking system will be hard at work, covering Snowshoe’s slopes. The resort will continue to evaluate forecast models in the coming weeks and will open just as soon as conditions allow.
