Good news for boarders and skiers in NC that want to learn to freestyle and accomplish amazing tricks! The Burton Snowboards’ Progression Park will open this winter 2009/2010 season at Appalachian Ski Mountain. Appalachian Ski Mtn is the first and only NC Ski Resort to acquire such a park, which is a uniquely designed type of terrain park that helps beginners learn tricks. Unlike most other terrain parks that are designed to allow riders to hit one park feature right after the other, the Progression Park will have "Stop and Drop Zones" which allows newbies to check out the feature before taking it on. Also, within these zones riders can see the proper method of accomplishing the trick via helpful signage that provides a "Trick Tip" on each feature. These tips depict a rider hitting the feature so that beginners can visualize how to do the trick, and also on the tip will be a special smart style message from the National Ski Areas Association’s terrain park code. Each Stop and Drop Zone is fenced in, separating riders from the other snowboard and skiers to ensure safety. Appalachian Ski Mountain is always on the forefront of teaching proper skiing and snowboarding skills and has long been famous among boarders and trick skiers for its terrain park features. Appalachian’s French Swiss Ski College plans to incorporate freestyle skiing and boarding into its teaching programs and will utilize the new Burton Progression Park at Appalachian Ski Mtn.

The new Burton Progression Park will be located at App Ski Mtn’s new terrain park, AppalTop, which can be found right beside the Upper Big Appal run. AppalTop will feature some fantastic freestyle terrain features such as jibs, rails, bonks, and boxes so that you can practice and perfect new Boone Snowboarding tricks. Burton Snowboards began creating these unique terrain parks in 2005 to aid new boarders and those wanting to try out freestyle tricks with developing the proper technique and skill base to do the trick safely. Burton Snowboards is the world’s largest and probably best known snowboard manufacturer. Appalachian Ski Mtn. is proud to be one of only 14 Burton Progression Parks in the entire world! This season plan to check out the new terrain park at App Ski Mountain and perfect your freestyle tricks on the Burton Progression Park!
