Wednesday is looking like a mixed bag.

From an ice storm warning to potential heavy rain, there is a wide variety of weather going to be affecting the area – it just matters where you are at.

This morning is kind of the calm before the storm as part of the area is even seeing a bit of sunshine.

That, however, will start to change as the day wears on.

Rain will be the main culprit for the southern resorts for today as the system slowly creeps north. The northern resorts will stay dry most of the day until a mixed bag of precipitation arrives tonight and into tomorrow.

An ice storm warning has been issued for the Wisp area that begins at 7p through Thursday night, while the Virginia and West Virginia resorts could also see icing.

Wednesday and Thursday are certainly days to be weather aware.

It is important to remember that a degree or two could have some major changes in the precipitation we see.

Whew – I meant it when I said it was going to be a mixed bag.

Brad will be sharing his latest skiers forecast in the next day or two, but the cold will arrive after this system moves through.Next week (and even the week after) is looking pretty nice.

For today, you will find some pretty nice conditions if you are lucky enough to make some turns.

A handful of resorts were able to make snow overnight – including Bryce and Snowshoe – to refresh the slopes.

For the latest details, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.

Here are a couple of notes from around the area.

  • App Ski Mountain has announced that they will be closing at 6p tonight due to the forecasted weather. They will resume operations at 9a on Thursday.
  • Snowshoe teased the opening of new terrain on the basin side in the mountain report as they hope to have Soaring Eagle open by the weekend. The ‘Shoe will open Silver Creek on Friday.
  • Today’s featured image is from 4848′ on Tuesday. The Island in the Sky was showing off for sure.

Even though Ma Nature isn’t exactly cooperating, a lot of fun can still be had on the slopes.

Here are a couple of cool posts from social media.

And for good measure, here is a photo from Bryce provided by our good friend Bill Nabers who said the skiing was a lot of fun on Monday.

That does it for today, but until tomorrow, #ThinkSnow!
