The second day of the 2021-22 season is here.

Sugar Mountain is the lone resort playing today, but hopefully, we will have a few more playing by the weekend.

The crew at Sugar is skiing from the top with four slopes available and the Summit Express Chairlift in operation. They are reporting an 8-22″ base with manmade and frozen granular.

Snowmaking continued most of the day at several resorts yesterday, but the mountain operations crews were forced to pause snowmaking as temperatures and wet bulb readings moved into unfavorable territory.

We are looking at a couple of mild days with Tuesday and Wednesday, but a front moves through on Thursday and we should have ample snowmaking windows heading into the weekend and early next week.

I also spy some light natural snow in the forecast (fingers crossed).

Speaking of natural snow, Wisp Resort added another inch over the last 24 hours, while Canaan Valley and Timberline added a light accumulation.

Today’s featured image is from Canaan Valley from Resortcams.com. Such a beautiful view – especially with some snow in the shot.

As I mentioned, we hope to have a couple more resorts in operation by the weekend.

Cataloochee announced that they are tentatively looking to kick off their season on Saturday, Nov. 20 as conditions allow.

Over the next couple of days, I fully expect we will get some opening day updates from a number of resorts including App Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain, Timberline, and Massanutten.

Snowshoe Mountain has previously announced an opening date of November 24.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
