Ober Gatlinburg will kick-off the 2021-22 Winter Snow Sports Season with the 12th Annual Back in Blue Rail Jam on Friday, November 19th. Back in Blue is the East Tennessee Ski Area’s signature season-opening event.

Held outdoors in the company’s spacious Tubing Park, Back in Blue is the earliest on-snow freestyle event in the Southeast and regularly features regional up-and-coming skiing and snowboarding talent from Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

The event is hosted by the Ober Gatlinburg Freestyle Terrain (OGFT) Park Crew and offers Competitors a challenging setup with a variety of boxes, rails, jumps, and other features.

With the use of SnowMagic Inc.’s warm-weather snowmaking technology and 18 other traditional snowmaking guns, the snow will be in top shape for this exciting annual event.

Once again, this year’s Back in Blue will be held “jam session” style and is non-sanctioned, allowing participants to focus on having fun while fine tuning their skills without the pressure of high stakes competition. Cash prizes will be awarded for the “best of” categories. The event is open to both skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

Rail Jam Competitor registration is now open.

Registration is $25.00 in advance or $35.00 day of. Helmets are required. This fee includes entry into the Back in Blue Rail Jam, an official event t-shirt, and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a snowboard from The Shops at Ober.

Competitors can register online at obergatlinburg.com and those under 18 must submit an additional hard copy waiver signed by a parent/guardian. Follow both the Ober Gatlinburg and OGFT social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) for more event information, updates, and announcements.

Back in Blue is free for spectators and offers ample viewing space and on-snow seating. There will also be a slope side DJ, Ski Season Pass discounted specials, and vendor representatives from both local and national brands.

The Rail Jam competition kicks off at 6:00 PM with participant orientation happening just before. After the on-snow action takes place, the party will move to the outdoor Pepsi Stage around 8:30 PM for awards and a free concert featuring Three Star Revival.
