The Mountains Are Roaring This Morning

The mountains are alive with a roar this morning.

As temperatures dropped late yesterday, the mountain operation crews cranked back up as snowmaking at most resorts is going full steam ahead.

It looks like everyone who made snow over the weekend cranked back up last night with a couple of new additions.

A quick tour over at Resortcams gives you walking in a winter wonderland vibes.

To add to that feeling, we saw a few locations pick up some sweet natural snow overnight.

Snowshoe and the Cheat Mountain magic were the big winners as they received 2″ of fresh snow, while Canaan and Timberline received around an inch.

Wisp received around a half inch.

Thursday still features two resorts open for play as lifts are spinning at Cataloochee and Sugar Mountain.

Cataloochee is reporting a 6-14″ base with six trails and three lifts in operation. They are playing on groomed surface and open from 9-4:30p.

Sugar is playing on six trails serviced by two lifts. They are riding on a 10-30″ base with a manmade and frozen granular base.

The snow this morning looks like a lot of fun.

We are slated to add one more resort to the open list tomorrow as App Ski Mountain is set to kick off the year.

On their snow report earlier this week, they previewed the opening day roster by saying they expect a majority of the slopes open with mid-season coverage and conditions.

The best part – snowmaking should continue most of the day (with maybe a short break at a couple of locations) and overnight. There are several good snowmaking windows over the next couple of days.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow.
