Spring-Like Conditions For Wednesday

It is going to feel almost summer-like over the next couple of days, but that doesn’t mean winter is gone.

The midweek trend of spring previews continues this week as we are starting to mild up – we could see temperatures reach the 70s at some resorts over the next couple of days – before winter comes back for at least part of the region.

This morning is on the milder side the farther south you go. We are seeing temperatures in the 50s at the North Carolina resorts this morning, and as you inch north they are cool out a bit with Wisp coming in at 34 degrees.

Of note, a little rain is falling in the northern part of the region with Canaan and Timberline receiving a trace of natural snow.

The bigger story, however, is going to be the temperatures.

As a result, we are seeing a couple of operational changes.
Wisp Resort has announced that they will be alternating open slopes today and Thursday to preserve terrain on the mountain. They hope to resume snowmaking operations on Friday evening.

Wintergreen is also making some adjustments to preserve snow as all slopes serviced by the Big Acorn lift will be closed today through Friday. Wintergreen hopes to make snow Friday night as well.

For the full rundown on conditions, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.

One additional note – it does appear Wolf Ridge is closed today. I’m not sure if this is temporary or for the season, and I haven’t had any luck reaching anyone on the phone over there this morning.

We will update you as we know more.

Mike shared an email late yesterday from our pal Meimei with a great update from her adventures at Massanutten (as well as today’s featured photo of the day).

She mentioned that is was great to see the improvements of snowmaking as well as the difference having two new blue routes is making.

Bill Nabers also checked in to update us on his Monday at Bryce which was great to hear. He noted they had all the ingredients for a good time – soft snow, mile temps and all but one slope open.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
