(Boone, NC) The Special Olympics North Carolina Winter Games – Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding will take place On January 9 and 10th at Appalachian Ski Mountain.

The Winter Games brings together over 100 athelets from across the state to compete in Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding.The Special Olympics cauldron will be lit on Sunday at Appalachian Ski Mountain and will remain burning throughout the competition.

Athletes from Beaufort, Brunswick, Buncombe, Cleveland, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Johnston, Lake Norman, Lee, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Orange, Pasquotank, Wake and Watauga counties will converge on the mountain for two days of qualifying and competition.

This weekend several inches of snow are expected to fall in the area and at Appalachian Ski Mountain, so the 2011 Special Olympics North Carolina Winter Games should be ones to remember!! Head up to Boone and Blowing Rock to support these courageous athletes!!
