Sapphire Valley Resort has announced their opening plan for the 2020-21 season.

Chris Green, Ski Area Director of Operations announced in a Friday press release that the resort is targeting Dec. 12 for opening day.

However, it could be sooner if the weather allows.

“We will open Thanksgiving if we can – we are here to make snow if Mother Nature cooperates” Green commented in the release.

The North Carolina resort will look to take advantage of a new water intake system that was completed last season.

As noted in the release, the Horsepasture River, located at the base of the ski area, provides the water required to make snow on the mountain and the older intake had become inadequate for the newer snowmaking system Green and crew installed the year earlier.

Ski Sapphire Valley is family oriented, kid friendly ski area and host of The Great Outhouse Races each Presidents Day weekend.
