I’ve got a lot going on today and not much was happening in the way of On-Snow Reports from Friday…so I am posting this morning’s update to both SkiNC.com and SkiSoutheast.com to save a lot of time.

The low temperatures in most areas of the Southeast this morning are ranging in the 40° to 50° range which is what the NORMAL high temperatures are. This abnormally warm spell will continue through the weekend and through the middle of next week…which is NOT what we all want to hear.

We have received a few emails and messageboard entries that the snow still looks pretty decent considering the weather. In North Carolina, Appalachian Ski Mountain and Wolf Laurel seem to be getting the most "nods" regarding the better snow…while Cataloochee and Sugar have gotten several mentions for SOME decent terrain. All of the ski areas in North Carolina have quite a few bear spots and thin coverage (except for Appalachian…which has no bear areas…but we are getting reports of thin coverage.) OH, THIS IS GETTING OLD!

This mild trend will continue for another few days and the forecast IS for the COLD AIR to return around Thursday of next week…which HOPES are that it will filter in just in time to make snow for the upcoming, very busy…and very important to the ski areas…Martin Luther King weekend.

Most of our reporters and several entries to the messageboard are betting that MORE resorts will close after this weekend and look to reopen Friday or Saturday of next weekend. We’ll keep you posted.

Here is the ONLY On-Snow Report we received:

Jeremy Dickerson was at Appalachian – "Just got in from an amazing day at App Mtn! Conditions were better than I had expected them to be. With hawksnest closing and all the other mtns having such little terrain we decided to head to App today and what a wise choice it was! Yes it was hot out, yes there was begining to be grassy areas, and yes we still had an awsome time! lines were almost non existant and some crazy things were thrown down in the park today! Apps park is one of the best 3 rails 1 jump today. and soft slushy snow as landings! what a great day to have fun with your friends on the slopes its always amazing to just get away from life and enjoy the white stuff with your friends even if the white stuff was often brown and green. Untill next time thanks App for a great day and keep up the great work SKINC!"
