On Snow

I just returned from my first ever trip to Cataloochee. I will be honest, I never was quite sure what all of the fuss was about. To me, it just seemed like a small mountain with two choices to ski down from the top. Of course, I did realize they had opened new trails for this season, and I certainly did understand they they have EXCELLENT snow making/management capabilities.

However, after skiing there today, I was REALLY impressed and really excited to go back. It was AWESOME! Previously I had skied all other NC resorts, Snowshoe, and even Colorado. The Cat certainly ranks right up there. My nephews and I had a blast. The quality of the snow and snow pack was the best I have seen in NC. However, what impressed me the most was that not only did they just have enough snow to cover all of the slopes, they even have enough snow blown into huge mounds up and down the mountain, to the point that if they didn’t make any more snow this season, I bet they could last well into March.

I guess that is why the Cat has been the last to close. They also have a lot of different terrain to choose from, just plain fun. I will definitely be back!!
