Weather

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

We’re mixing things up a little today and giving you guys some snow to look at in today’s weather update.  To accomplish that we are compiling the SkiSoutheast and SkiNC data into ONE location today (on both websites!)

Wisp Resort: Let’s start with the most Northerly Ski Resort we cover in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic area – Wisp Resort.  Lori Epp kept us updated with frequent updates as the snows mounted up there.  They have 9” of fresh snow on the ground after 6” more inches yesterday and 3” the day before.

The forecast for today at Wisp is for Partly cloudy skies. A chance of snow showers early this morning. Little or no additional snow accumulation. Highs around 30. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph this morning. Chance of snow 30 percent.

Friday…Mostly sunny. Highs in the low to mid 40s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday…Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid to upper 40s. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph.

Snowshoe Mountain: Snowshoe received another 10” of snow yesterday and 13” since Tuesday and that takes them to 95” on the season! It’s 10° this morning and they are not expected to get out of the 20s today for highs and then back down to 10° or so again tonight.

Friday and Saturday look Sunny and mild with temps in the 30s and low 40s and overnight lows in the teens Friday night and mid to upper 20s on Saturday night.

Canaan Valley:  Canaan picked up 6” of snow yesterday and they too are looking at about the same weather as Snowshoe with temps only about 3° higher across the board.

Timberline Resort in West Virginia picked up 6” of new snow and that takes them to 75” on the season. Ditto the forecast for Canaan Valley.

Winterplace Resort is next down the seaboard and they are reporting 21° this morning and light snow at this time.  No additional accumulation is expected today, but they DID receive 5” of new snow yesterday.  They are looking at temps in the upper 20s to low 30s today and back into the teens tonight.  Friday should be sunny and mild into the mid 40s or so.  Saturday is also looking sunny with highs in the upper 40s.

Wintergreen Resort: As we move into Virginia we lose the natural snowfall ƒ¼ However is was plenty cold and resorts made snow.  Today’s high will be in the upper 30s to low 40s under sunny skies. Friday and Saturday will also be sunny and milder with highs in the upper 40s and into the mid 50s on Saturday.  Overnight lows tonight will make it into the teens, Friday night’s low will be in the upper 20s.

We’ll next provide the forecast for the North Carolina Mountains:

The normal temps for this time of year is 42° for a high temp and 20° for the low.  Today we will be about 6° colder than normal – which is great to be able to say!

The records for this date are:

66° for a high back in 1950
-1° for the low back in 1978
7” of snow fell in 1987 on this date.

Today’s high will creep into the mid 30s and drop back into the 20° range under clear skies.  Friday will be much milder with temps in the mid to upper 40s and lows Friday night around the upper 20s.  Saturday becomes partly cloudy with slightly milder (a degree or two) temps.

We may see a little light rain on Sunday across the entire Southeast and then Behind that second front is much colder air. It rushes in late Monday with snow showers possible Monday night and Tuesday. Tuesday is cold, Wednesday not as cold.

Until Next Time!
