The cold air has returned for a little while.

The bottom fell out of the temperatures overnight as we are seeing some resorts 20-30 degrees colder than they were yesterday.

That roller-coaster plunge has allowed the mountain operation crews to crank snowmaking operations back up, and they are going full blast.

All 16 resorts are taking advantage of this snowmaking window and it looks like a winter wonderland across the mountains.

It is pretty sweet.

We are also keeping our eye on the forecast for overnight and in the morning. While accumulations look to be on the light side, we could see a little bit of natural snowfall – which will help set the winter ambiance.

We have seven resorts open today, and conditions should be pretty sweet with the effort of the mountain op crews overnight (be sure to #ThankASnowmaker).

Here is a quick look at the conditions this morning.

App Ski Mountain – App is playing on seven trails with five lifts spinning. They are reporting a 16-40″ base with groomed conditions. They have set up four features in Appal Jam for terrain park fans.

Beech Mountain – Beech is rocking a 22-34″ base with groomed conditions. They have four lifts servicing nine open slopes with several park features available on Lower Shawneeaw and Upper Powder Bowl.

Beech also announced that night skiing returns on Friday night.

Cataloochee – Cat is playing on a 22-30″ base with a groomed surface and they remain open to the top. They are offering seven slopes and four lifts today for day sessions only.

The Maggie Valley resort announced a new Adult Freestyle Camp over the weekend.

Snowshoe Mountain – The ‘Shoe has 56 acres of open terrain with 17 slopes and four lifts in operation today. They are reporting a 30″ base with a groomed surface.

Don’t be surprised if see that open slope count inch up in the next day or two.

Sugar Mountain – Sugar has eight trails open with four lifts in operation. They are reporting a manmade and frozen granular surface with a 22-63″ base.

Sugar is open for night skiing.

Timberline Mountain – The Davis, WV resort remains at 55% of the mountain open for play with 11 slopes and three lifts spinning. They are reporting an 18-24″ base with a groomed surface.

Timberline (along with Canaan Valley) did receive a trace of fresh natural snow overnight.

Wisp Resort – The McHenry, MD resort is open from 9a-4p today with five trails and six lifts in operation. They have a 16″ base with a groomed and variable surface.

As a note for all the open resorts today, snowmaking will continue as long as conditions allow.

Before we go, I couldn’t help but share this beautiful picture that Canaan Valley shared over on Facebook on Monday.

Beautiful.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
