Can’t Rain On Our Parade

Mother Nature is going to try and rain on our parade a bit, but it shouldn’t put a hamper on things for the weekend.

Today is a weird day as we await the bottom to fall out of the temperatures later tonight.

It is going to be milder as we are already seeing temperature readings of mid 40’s to low 50’s. That means it will be some springlike conditions on the slopes today, which can still be a lot of fun.

Most of the area will stay dry for a good part of the day with the exception of the northern resorts like Wisp and the West Virginia resorts as rain may try and move in mid-day.

Those at the southern resorts may not see rain until late this evening. However, if you are riding this evening you will need to be weather aware as we say see a thunderstorm as the rain moves in.

The rain, however, moves out by first chair tomorrow and takes the mild temperatures with it. Cooler air returns, and we could see snowmaking crank up as soon as Friday morning setting the stage for an incredible President’s Day Weekend.

We could also see some light flurries or even light snow showers as things wrap up, but accumulations won’t be anything to write home about.

This weekend, however, is looking pretty sweet.

As for today, good outer gear will be key once the rain starts, but there is a lot of fun still to be had on the slopes.

For the latest conditions, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.

Here are a couple of notable items for today.

  • Omni Homestead has resumed operations after their scheduled midweek break as they are reporting a 42″ base with groomed and packed powder conditions. They are playing on nine trails.
  • Ski Sapphire is set to resume operations tomorrow as scheduled. The annual Great Outhouse Races are scheduled for Saturday.
  • It was great to see a familiar face profiled in Highland Outdoors as Snowshoe’s legendary lift attendant Ballhooter Mike was featured. You can read the interview here.
  • As of late last night, there was no update on the quad at Wolf Ridge. Be sure to check back as well as check Wolf Ridge’s Facebook page for the latest.
  • Today’s featured image is from Wintergreen Resort and Wednesday’s sunrise. What an incredible view.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
