Looks like we’re going to have a nice, snowy winter if the weatherlore holds true to form. The professional weather peeps are all ramping up the hype about an El Niño winter and the chances of a moderate El Niño continues to grow. That too would bode well for snow lovers particularly here in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic. As we get into September we will be sharing a lot of these prognostications. So stay tuned for those.

The photo of the day (at the top of this update) is from Snowshoe Mountain this morning. Things were a little foggy there this morning. We’re not sure what’s happening with their popular Basin camera as it seems to be focused on a closeup of some trees. Hopefully they will get that fixed pronto. That’s a sweet camera year-round.

This shot just doesn’t get old:

Camera capture this morning from the top of Hibriten Mountain aimed east.

Kenny setup a trigger that captures imagery from this on each morning. Pretty cool. What’s nuts is that just over an hour later all those clouds/fog were gone. Check it out.

This is another capture of the sea of fog that was in place this morning as seen from the Grandfather Mountain camera.

Matt Laws reported that the only fog he saw on his drive in this morning from Roan Mountain was once he got within a few miles of the office. As noted above, the fog was pretty dense really from about Smoketree Lodge all the way to the office.

So we will go with MODERATE FOG this morning.
