On Snow

Well, after reviewing the weather reports, we decided to go to Wolf instead of Beech today due to the warmer temps and much lower winds.

6:30am…..beep, beep, beep, smash. The alarm clock goes off and is quickly followed by my hand hitting the snooze button. I did manage to finally get up about ten till 7 though and my bro and I were on our way by about 730am.

Arrived at Wolf Ridge about 830am and got primo, rock star parking. There were only 4 other cars there! Temp was hovering around 22 degrees and the sun was shining. I was thinking to myself that this was going to be a stellar day. Picked up our lift tickets for only 24.00 after the imaginary college discount and headed to the lodge to put on our gear.

We hit the slopes at about 840am and believe it or not, got first chair! No tracks anywhere in the freshly groomed slopes! Headed up to the top of viewfinder and rocketed down the mountain. Conditions were about an 8 out of 10 with loose manmade power on top of packed powder. There were some small icy spots on top but they were few and far between.

After a handful of runs down the old section we decided to try out the new side of Wolf, since I havn’t been yet on a day that it was open. It is a nice run, and the terrain park was pretty decent, albeit rather small. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that the lifts drop you off on the way back up were there is still a modest hill to get up. Other than that, the new area was nice, but not worth the hassle of the lifts. We stayed on the old side the rest of the day.

Continued to make run after run after run with no lines to speak of. Awesome! About 230pm, we are headed up the lift and I look down to see two pre-teen girls having terrible trouble getting down the run. They were absolute beginners and shouldn’t have been up there. They took their skis off and were walking down the slope on the side. Well, the one higher up the slope slipped and began sliding on her bum down the hill…….can you guess what happened? Yep, she slammed into the other girl and sent her down and flying into the woods. It was without a doubt the funniest thing I have ever seen. Must be a new game I am unaware of. Bowling for Gapers maybe is it’s name?

Well. the rest of the day was just as bomber and we just kept on making run after run. I think we went down the mountain about 20-25 times in all. Great value for less than 25.00. No hard spills and we were both just killing it.

I would have to say that it was one of my best days on the slopes.
