A Taste Of Winter Chill To Bring In Spring

The first day of spring is starting with a strong taste of winter this morning.

I guess we count today as the first day of spring as it officially starts at 11:06p tonight, but it feels more like winter this morning as we have temperatures in the lower teens and even some light snow falling at Snowshoe Mountain.

We move forward with the trio of resorts (Cataloochee, Snowshoe and Sugar) open for skiing and playing today. You can check out the full conditions report over on the Snow Reports page.

Snowshoe is getting a little Cheat Mountain magic this morning as light snow is falling with a light dusting on the ground.

The Mountain Operation guys are also working their magic as the crew at 4848′ is putting down the manmade snow. #ThankASnowmaker

Conditions look fantastic at all three resorts as there is plenty of snow to play on.

The cooler temps will stick around throughout the day, and the first full day of spring will see temperatures start creeping back into the mild territory.

Today through Thursday does look to be on the dry side (outside of a few snow showers at Snowshoe) so it will be a great time to ride.

Here are a couple of quick notes from around the area.

  • The Big Birch lift at Sugar will open at 12p. The Banner Elk resort has also announced that the tubing park is closed for the season.
  • Cataloochee’s Cat Cage Terrain Park is closed for the season. Cataloochee is open 9a-4:30p.
  • Snowshoe did note that they will make snow as long as conditions allow today as long as conditions allow.
  • Ober Mountain continues to offer unlimited snow tubing for the rest of the season. Currently, snow tubing at Ober is set to close for the season on Sunday, March 24.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
