The reboot of winter is here (finally).

After a week of spring-like conditions, Old Man Winter is returning to the region today with perfect timing. It’s hard to believe that it has been just over a week since last week’s snow and cold, but that is a sign of just how brutal this week has been with the warm and rain.

However, the season gets back on track today.

Temperatures will fall later today and the mountain operation crews will crank up snowmaking to reboot the ski season as we head into the busy MLK Weekend. Tonight’s snowmaking window signals a return to winter as we head into the freezer next week – with the potential for around the clock snowmaking early on.

The best part is we could even see some natural snow – especially in West Virginia and Wisp – to help set the winter ambiance and provide a little natural powder.

Today is going to be a day of change.

As the temperatures fall, we will see the resorts resume snowmaking operations – Beech and Sugar got a bit of a head start overnight – and every resort will take advantage as soon as conditions allow.

Speaking of snowmaking, Bryce Resort shared this video tease of snowmaking operations last night.

Be sure to be on the lookout for changing conditions on the slope today as you may see a bit of everything depending on where and when you are riding.

For this morning’s slope conditions, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.

Of note, Wolf Ridge has decided to push reopening back a day as they are now planning on resuming operations tomorrow (Jan. 17) to kick off the holiday weekend. App Ski Mountain is also set to resume operations tomorrow.

Also, Beech Mountain has resumed operations this morning after suspending lift operations due to yesterday’s weather.

Be sure to follow us over on Facebook as we will be updating conditions throughout the day – especially when the roar of the snow guns return to the mountains.

If you haven’t already followed us there, today would be a great day as we are giving away a Ski Getaway to Canaan Valley tomorrow and all our followers are eligible – pretty sweet deal!

That is it for today, but until next time – #ThinkSnow and #ThinkCold!
