The beans are in the jar.

With a foggy Wednesday morning, August 2022 came to a close with 23 beans in the jar representing 23 foggy mornings.

If you aren’t familiar with the August fog count, it dates back to mountain folklore of “for every fog in August, there will be a snowfall during the subsequent winter season.”

The mountain tradition also indicates for every foggy morning to place a bean in a jar to keep count – which is something we do each and every year here at the Ski Southeast offices.

We really love foggy August mornings around here.

This season’s mark of 23 bests last year’s mark of 21 but falls just short of 2020’s mark of 26.

Interestingly, WCYB (out of Bristol, VA) meteorologist Dave Boyd shared that Tri-Cities Airport near Johnson City saw 25 foggy mornings.

Mike has shared some awesome videos and photos over the last couple of weeks of foggy mornings, so be sure to check those out if you missed them.

As August comes to a close, we will start ramping up content and updates over the next couple of weeks to get things cranked up.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
