As we predicted might happen, Sugar Mountain has closed due to the unseasonably warm temperatures and rain. Appalachian IS OPEN and expects to be open for day skiing and night skiing tonight. App lost an average of 3 to 5" of it’s base, and as of this posting at 7:45am…their camera is showing it looking p-r-e-t-t-y bad. However, we are watching their groomers doing some tidying up, to make it such that they will be open with two trails.

Now the Good News – We have a couple more days of frustration and Friday will begin delivering the kind of cold temperatures that we have ALL been waiting for. As of this morning temperatures are ranging from 34° on Beech Mountain in North Carolina, 34° up at Snowshoe is West Virginia, 39° on Sugar Mountain, 40° in Banner Elk, 43° in Boone and 41° near Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock.

That is all changing –With the cold that comes in Friday, expect to see Sugar crank up the guns quickly and they are shooting for reopening on Saturday. We’ll keep you posted. You can also expect all of the resorts to fire up the snowguns and one by one ALL of the resorts will begin opening as early as Monday of next week. Most will probably look at opening on the 17th. With cold in the long range forecast as well…WINTER IS FINALLY COMING and our ski season will be going quite strong for the Holiday crowds! Yea!
