Southeast Ski Weather Forecast for January 2nd, 2006 and Beyond

Weather

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

Today looks more like a bothersome, drizzle kind of day with highs approaching 50° (maybe even a little higher) and a good 60% chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two.  Low Monday night of 37 across most of the higher elevations of the Southeast.  Slightly colder temps but still rain at Snowshoe and Davis, West Virginia (Home to Canaan and Timberline).  Expect highs in the upper 40s there.

Tuesday – Hi 46° – Low 33° and 40% chance of a shower or two still hanging around in the NC mountains, and temps closer to 40° up at Snowshoe and Davis, West Virginia.  Add 2-5 degrees into Virginia and McHenry, Maryland (home to WISP Resort.)

Wednesday – Partly Cloudy early then a slight chance of drizzle or maybe a snow flurry or two with highs in the upper 40s and dropping to a low 30° overnight in the NC, VA, WV and Maryland Mountains.

Then the fun begins as winter decides to come back to us through at least January 11th which is as far out as the long range forecast goes right now.

Thursday should start as a Partly Cloudy to Snow to Snow mixed with rain kind of day.  Highs may get to 40° and then turn colder with snowmaking temps down to 23°. Snow should pickup a bit overnight in the North Carolina mountains. Snowshoe may see quite colder temps as highs will only reach 30° and lows will be around 20°.  Add 2-5 degrees into Virginia and Maryland’s higher elevation homes to Massanutten, Timberline, Canaan and Wisp Resorts.

Friday looks like a definate snow day! Some accumulation is expected with highs in the low to mid 30s and lows dipping into the teens. Again Snowshoe will see highs in the 20s and lows near 10°.

Saturday should provide a little more snow early and partly cloudy later in the day.  Highs are expected to be in the 34° range and lows around 17° in the western North Carolina mountains and much colder highs in the 22° range at Snowshoe…with 2-5 degree milder temps across the rest of West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland’s WISP resort.

There’s another chance of snow on Monday and every few days beyond…so THINK SNOW and COLD.

Good news is that there will lots of snowmaking going on beginning Wednesday Night or Thursday.
