FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON FALLS ON SNOWSHOE MOUNTAIN

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. – (October 22, 2016) – Snowshoe Mountain (www.snowshoemtn.com), the #1 mountain resort in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, got a glimpse of winter this morning as a heavy dusting of snow fell overnight with flurries continuing today. Snowshoe plans to open for the 2016/17 Ski Season on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, weather permitting.

Meteorologists are predicting that a weak La Nina system could lead to “snowier than normal” conditions for the East this winter. This is great news for Snowshoe, where they receive approximately 180 inches of snow annually.

“Our mountain is geographically situated in a true sweet spot,” says Resort spokesman Shawn Cassell, “Our high elevation, and our ability to capitalize on snow from Canadian Clipper systems as well as big Nor’easters results in high snowfall totals year after year. Throw in our state-of-the-art snowmaking system and you can see why we feel so confident in continuing to offer our Snow Guarantee.”

The Resort’s Snow Guarantee states that they will have more skiable terrain open than any other ski mountain in the Southeast from December 16, 2016 through March 12, 2017, or your next day of skiing is FREE. With the first snow already fallen, the roar of snow guns can be expected very soon. Snowshoe has made significant upgrades to their snowmaking system in recent years, particularly in the expert-only Western Territory area. Resort officials are optimistic that cooperative weather could lead to the earliest opening ever of their legendary Cupp Run, a 1.5 mile black diamond trail that drops 1,500 ft. in elevation.

Snowshoe Mountain has announced another action-packed schedule of events for the winter season, including a fresh slate of artists for the resort’s Beats On The Basin Concert Series, and dates for the 10th Anniversary Burton Women’s Snowboard Camp, Cupp Run Challenge, WV Open Slopestyle Competition, Ballhooter Spring Break Festival, and much more.
