SNOWSHOE, W.Va.- Snowshoe is excited to announce the first annual SCION West Virginia Open the weekend of January 27 – 29.  Skiers and snowboarders throughout the region are invited to compete for the title of West Virginia State Champion.  Cash prizes totaling over $5,000 will be awarded to the winners in each of three events including slopestyle, rail and boarder/skier cross competitions.

There is a lot to do and see at Snowshoe Mountain during the weekend for those who aren’t competing as well.  SCION will be featuring their vehicles Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. atop the Ballhooter lift and in the Village at Snowshoe.  With the purchase of one lift ticket, SCION owners can receive a second lift ticket for free by showing their SCION key at any on-mountain sales location.

Saturday’s events will include a slopestyle competition from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Spruce Glades Terrain Park and a rail competition from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Skidder slope.   Competitors can register Saturday morning at Full Tilt in the Village for a small fee.  The slopestyle registration is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the rail registration is from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The SCION After Party will be in the Big Top from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday night and will feature musical guest Veruca Salt.  The winners from the day’s events will be recognized and awarded at 9 p.m.  The evening’s activities are open to the public and free of charge.

Sunday’s boarder/skier cross events will take place at Silver Creek from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Slaymaker and Spur slopes.  Competitors can register Sunday morning at the yurt on the Mountaineer slope.

The 2006 SCION West Virginia Open Awards Presentation will be in the Big Top on Sunday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Prizes will be presented to the winners of the day’s events as well as the overall weekend champion.

Sunday will also be the second of four of Snowshoe’s West Virginia Youth Ski Free Days and Battle of the Bands competitions.  West Virginia residents 18 years of age and under can ski for free, receive 50% off rentals and 50% off lessons with proof of residency.  The battle of the bands will rock the Big Top Sunday evening in conjunction with the SCION West Virginia Open Awards Presentation.  The bands will be competing for a $100 cash prize and a spot in the finals on Sunday, March 12 where they will be competing for $500.
