Hit the Slopes for Hope at Appalachian Ski Mountain today! – Jenna Coogle, the President and Founder, and Phillip Sink, Vice President want us to get the word out to be over at Appalachian Ski Mountain TODAY! The Second Annual Hit the Slopes for Hope event will take place at Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock, NC on Sunday, February 27, 2005. The event will consist of a freestyle contest, ski and board-a-thon and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We’re hoping to beat our $6,000 record from last year.

The Freestyle contest is being sponsored by Edge of the World, and will include a rail jam contest and slopestyle event for both skis AND snowboards. Prizes include new decks, bindings, helmets, snowboard boots, twin tip skis, goggles and gift certificates to many area restaurants. The format will be similar to the other contests sponsored by Edge.

The ski and board-a-thon will take place on Orchard Run, the longest intermediate run at Appalachian Ski Mountain. Participants will have from 10 AM – 2 PM to complete as many runs as possible down Orchard. Participants will have priority boarding on the number 3 quad chairlift, and all safe skiing guidelines will apply. The participants completing the most runs will be eligible for prizes including race skis, twintips, new decks, bindings, helmets, goggles, clothing, etc. There will be an additional category of prizes for those bringing in the most sponsorship money. HTSFH is a 501(c) tax-deductible non-profit.

The basic fees for the contest are $25 for registration and t-shirt. The freestyle contest will have a $15 dollar registration fee with t-shirt optional. If a lift ticket is needed, the entire package will be available for $55. Just like a walk-a-thon, participants will seek donations from friends and businesses for sponsorship money. See www.hittheslopesforhope.org for suggestions on sponsorships.

A silent auction is also part of the event. We are auctioning off several thousand dollars worth of ski and snowboard gear, clothing, gift certificates and dates with French-Swiss Ski College instructors! The silent auction will take place in the Snowcloud room in the Appalachian Ski Mtn. Lodge.

We hope to see as many people as possible to help us with our goal of $50,000 in donations! Please check out www.hittheslopesforhope.org for more information.
