Canaan Valley Resort Begins Snowmaking at its Ski Area and Tubing Park for opening ASAP.

canaan valley making snowDAVIS, W.Va., November 23, 2015 – Crews at Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area have fired up snow guns and are laying down a base in anticipation of opening the ski hill and tubing park as soon as temps allow.

“After a spectacular fall we are eagerly anticipating winter season, and the excitement in the air is just as palpable as the moisture from our snow guns,” said Steve Drumheller, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort. “And although Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area gets 180 inches of snow annually, sometimes Mother Nature’s natural snow needs a little extra help, which we are happy to provide.”

With an average valley floor elevation of 3,300 feet with the surrounding peaks rising to 4,300 feet above sea level, Canaan Valley Resort features a 47-run ski area with 91 skiable acres, three lifts – one quad, two triples and a magic carpet – lighted night skiing on weekends and holidays, a terrain park and ski school.

New this year is the addition of glade skiing in the eastern part of the mountain between the two black diamond runs named Prosperity and Dark Side of the Moon.

The activity is organized into two-hour sessions starting at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. throughout the winter and at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on prime season weekends and holidays. The rate is $18 per person for each two-hour session, and a magic carpet takes tubers back up to the top.

The park includes Bald Knob Haus with a fireplace, outdoor fire ring and concessions with hot and cold drinks and snacks. Tubers must be at least four years old and 48 inches tall.

A covered outdoor ice skating rink offers sweeping views of the valley and mountain range. Two-hour skating sessions are $10 for adults and $8 for children, and skate rentals are $3 per person.

Starting Dec. 18, the resort will also offer the Family Escape Tubing Package featuring one night of lodging in a standard queen or king room, a large pepperoni pizza from Seasons Cafe, two two-hour snow tubing tickets and privileges at the Beech Club pool and fitness center. Midweek rates start at $123 per night. Weekend rates start at $143 per night.

Canaan Valley Resort is located in north central West Virginia three hours from Pittsburgh, 3¼ hours from Washington, D.C. and 2¾ hours from Charleston, WV.

canaan003The resort recently completed a massive two-year, $34 million renovation project that included renovation of all guest rooms as well as public areas including the main lodge, gift shop and grab-and-go-café. All rooms feature oversized bathrooms, flat-screen televisions and in-room refrigerators.
