Can Cataloochee Ski Area Top their 2005-2006 Season?

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

It’s only August so we’re still not even close to going into our pre-season ski mode, but we’re seeing signs that things are beginning to transition from Summer to Fall to ski season.  The kids started school (11) days ago here in the mountains of Western North Carolina; traffic is picking up on both SkiNC and SkiSoutheast; my favorite football team is only TEN DAYS AWAY from defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs and I’ve even noticed some groundhogs and other rodents scurrying a bit more than usual.  Other signs – such as the members of the messageboard getting a little gamey and raring to see some cold air filter into the region. Oh yeah, we’ve also had more pre-season conversations with ski area management than usual and it is obvious that all are making necessary tweaks and upgrades to their "product". We have plans to gear up a bit around September 1st and we’ll certainly have some more information to share with you.

In the meantime, we thought we’d share a little promotion of Cataloochee today.  The Cat, located in Maggie Valley, North Carolina was the first ski area to open in the entire Southeast and Mid-Atlantic region last season and they were the last to close in North Carolina! They skied and snowboarded from November 17th, 2005 all the way through April 1st, 2006.

We have more news and details to share with you as we get a little closer to the season, but one nice bit of news from Cataloochee is the fact that they will be making snow this coming season on the Upper and Lower Snowbird Trails which means that visitors will get to enjoy that great terrain other than those rare times that Mother Nature drops deep, natural snowfall.

Season Passes are on sale NOW at Cataloochee and the price goes up September 1st, so we’d get a move on if you plan to ski and ride at Cataloochee this season.  Why not save by contacting them today! You can call them at 828-926-0285 or 800-768-0285 or email [email protected] (Be sure to tell them you read about it on SkiNC or SkiSoutheast.com.)

The Cat also has another pretty ferocious deal – (get it…Cat / Ferocious.  I know it was lame but I’m rusty). Ski or Ride at Cataloochee Ski Area any non-holiday Monday through Friday and stay at any of the lodging properties that they are partnering with any non-holiday Sunday through Wednesday nights and you can participate in their DRIVE, SLIDE, STAY! two day midweek ski and stay package. This package is a per person price based on double (or quad) occupancy and the price is also based on a 2 night stay…however this great deal includes the following:

2 Midweek Non-Holiday Marathon (9am-10pm) Lift Tickets
2 Midweek Non-Holiday Marathon (9am-10pm) Midweek Non-Holiday Ski or Snowboard Rentals
2 Beginner or Intermediate Level Class Lessons
1 Gas Card Good for $10 in Gas
Two Nights Lodging, any non-holiday Sunday through Wednesday evening.

There are some restrictions, but it’s a great deal if you plan on skiing and lodging at Cataloochee. All of the lodging choices are within minutes of the ski area and the rates are as low as $139 per person.  If you’re interested in more information, you can visit Cat’s website at http://www.cataloochee.com

As usual President, Tony Waddell – General Manager, Chris Bates and PR Guru, Tammy Brown are all working feverishly to make your experience at Cataloochee a great one for the upcoming season. Last season will be hard to top, but you can bet that they will be attempting to offer some great new deals and promotions.

More to come soon! In the meantime, don’t forget season passes for next season are on sale now for the lowest rate of the year. Pass pricing will go up on September 1.

Until Next time…
