A Little Rain Won’t Stop The Weekend Fun

What a day Saturday proved to be.

Great weather and great conditions made Saturday the pick of the weekend, and it showed on the slopes as several people were taking advantage of the weather and fresh conditions as a few resorts hit capacity limits.

Today will still be a lot of fun for those looking to make turns, but it will be a tad on the wet side. Nothing good gear won’t stop.

The northern resorts see a few snow showers mixed in as well.

For the full condition report, be sure to hop over to the Snow Reports page for all the details.

This season has had a roller coaster feel when it comes to the weather – it seems like the only thing consistent has been the inconsistency.

This week will continue that trend as we will have some underdeveloped snow – including today – that comes after three or four really, really good days.

We could see some natural snow at the northern resorts, but we will dive into that throughout the week.

Despite the curveballs that Ma Nature has thrown at us, the mountain operation crews have taken advantage of the timely cold snaps to help keep the season rolling right along (#ThankASnowmaker).

They continue to work their magic as several new trails opened up on Friday and Saturday, and it looks like we also have a couple more openings up today.

It was great to see Canaan Valley get Gravity and Snowfields along with three over trails open for play yesterday, while Snowshoe dropped the rope on Lower Shay’s Revenge.

Pretty sweet.

A few additional notes as we head into Sunday.

  • If possible, purchase your lift tickets, rentals, etc. online to help get you on the slopes faster as well as be sure you are able to get on the slopes as a few resorts have hit capacity limits over the past couple of days.
  • There are several race events across the region today so be aware there could be a slope (Appal Jam at App and Squirrel Cage at Wisp for example) closed here or there while the races are ongoing.
  • As I mentioned at the top, Saturday was a busy day, and it looked like a lot of fun was being had.
  • The resorts are great follows on social media to see the latest happenings (for those without social media – we will continue to bring you some of the best posts throughout the week).
  • Wintergreen Resort was able to get its snowmaking system back online and took full advantage on Friday night. I know they are stoked to have that capability back.
  • I really liked this note on Massanutten’s daily report – “Don’t let the weather icon on your phone fool you, the weather service says .02 of precip. Grab your rain jacket and come on out for some Sunday soft turns.”

The beautiful Saturday brought the resorts alive on social media with some outstanding content.

Here are a few of my favorite posts from the last couple of days.

It was great to see App Ski Mountain posting a great shot of conditions as well as featuring some of their patrollers.

Speaking of App, they are hosting an Appalachian Alpine Women’s Clinic with Heidi Ettlinger on Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. More information can be found on their Facebook page.

Bryce Resort’s social media team keeps knocking content out of the part, and they spent some time on Saturday with the Jr Development Team.

It is great to see kids enjoying the sport we love.

As I mentioned earlier, Canaan Valley announced the opening of new terrain and shared the news on Facebook.

Some fantastic conditions in Davis, WV right now for both Timberline and Canaan Valley.

Ober Mountain posted a ton of great content on their Facebook Story, but I am unable to share it here. The resort had a great vibe on Saturday and it looked like everyone was enjoying their Saturday.

As a friendly reminder, Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Omni Homestead Resort is offering some help in planning a Valentine’s trip.

I know Kenny shared this yesterday, but these views from Timberline are just amazing.

Winterplace hosted a cool series on Instagram on Saturday as they let Ski Patrol take over the resort’s social media. Here is the first of six posts in the series.

You can check out the rest over on Facebook and Instagram.

Our new friends over at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations posted this birdseye view of Wisp on Saturday.

Incredible.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
