THIS WEEKEND SHOULD BE GREAT AS WELL!!!

There is plenty of good news for skiers and snowboarders who plan to ski or ride at any of the southeast and mid-Atlantic ski resorts this weekend. After one of the wettest few days of the season early in the week, temperatures have allowed for snowmaking crews to do an amazing job of using the best that nature has offered to turn slushy, Spring-looking slopes into what appears to be pristine slopes and trails for this weekend. It is really bordering on magic – the job that these crews can do.

Also it didn’t hurt at all that several of the ski areas saws some significant natural snow as well. We saw snow for most of the last three days at my home and office, but we have only a dusting to show for it as high winds and intermittent sunshine minimized the results of it.

However, just 15 minutes up the road at Beech Mountain, they saw 7″ or so of the “white stuff” and of course that will make for a lot of excited fans of the highest ski resort east of the Mississippi.

It is still snowing this morning at Snowshoe!

Snowshoe Resort has been the BIG WINNER from the latest snow in the region. While several ski areas like Wisp Resort, Beech Mountain, Canaan and Timberline all saw about 7″ of new snow in the last 48 hours or so, Snowshoe is STILL SEEING pretty moderate snow this morning.

You can watch it still snowing LIVE by clicking here:

Snowshoe Basin WebCam

Snowshoe saw another 2″ in the last 24 hours, 15.5″ in the last 48 hours and now 114″ on the season.

You can watch some flurries happening at Wisp Resort this morning as well.

The main news to share this morning is the fact that all of the ski areas weathered the “under-developed snow” (RAIN for you newbies) and they all now look pretty sweet for what should be a great weekend to play at YOUR favorite ski hill.

Timberline’s Thunderstruck Lift Reopens Today

We received this update from Joe Stevens, via Kathryn Dotson who is “Assistant to Fred & Tracy Herz”:

Good afternoon all,

The repairs on Thunderstruck triple lift are proceeding as scheduled, and we are happy to say we are on track to open the lift (Saturday) morning as planned. There will be press coverage tomorrow morning at 9:30 as the owners take the first ride up the mountain. Immediately thereafter the lift will be opened to the public. Please help us spread the good news!

Best,
Kathy

A Sweet Look at Ober Gatlinburg

We don’t really hear much out of the Smoky Mountain ski resort each year so when we see something sweet coming out of their camp, we like to share it with those who we know love the Gatlinburg ski area. This is a very nice video that shows conditions there.

Wintergreen Resort Posted a Nice Snowmaking Video

This nice vid shows how the ski areas can really turn conditions around after all the wet weather that we saw earlier in the week.
