For those of you who are trying to plan a Thanksgiving ski trip, it looks as if you’ll have your choice of six resorts. Spending the holiday at a vacation destination doesn’t have to mean abandoning tradition; but who says everyone has to have the same tradition? You and your family can start a new tradition – maybe visiting a different ski resort each year. Don’t worry, if you want to stay true to turkey day, many restaurants on site offer the conventional Thanksgiving meal. Just what you need after a strenuous morning on the slopes and before hitting it again to finish off the day.

Some would say this weekend is the ideal time to go. Compared to the "pre-season," resorts have more runs open, and typically more snow, but not as much of a crowd compared to later on in the season. The biggest issue is planning a trip ahead of time without knowing what conditions will be like. You should be able to get a pretty good idea by doing a little research — check the local weather forecast, look at the resort website to see if they’ll be making snow, along with their webcam if they have one to see what the base looks like, and of course, check back here for our daily snow reports and updates.
Others choose to hold off until conditions are likely to be more favorable and the calendar declares it’s winter. If you ask me, getting in a couple of "training days" can’t hurt. So what if you go and it’s not the best base or there’s limited terrain? At the very least, you’re getting those leg muscles ready.
