Happy Easter Everyone!

It will be a chilly but gorgeous day on this day that we honor and thank Jesus, the Son of our Creator for His awesome sacrifice on the Cross. Have a Blessed day everyone!

Today should be in the 40s with sunny skies for the most part. We’re expecting some clouds to roll in and bring us a dusting of snow this evening and tonight. Snowmaking temps return for the resorts that wish to make snow. We hear that several will be doing so. It should drop to around 25° this evening in the North Carolina mountains and even colder further north. Appalachian Ski Mountain is calling it "An Easter Surprise – Three Nights of Snowmaking!" so they are definately sticking wth their committment to make snow right up to the closing of March 30th.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect today. Check the Slope Conditions page for specifics.

Appalachian is reporting 27° this morning. They made snow and are doing so at this hour! (See the live cams!) They are 100% open for skiing and for a great Easter Brunch!

Cataloochee is CLOSED for Easter Sunday and will reopen Monday AM.

Sugar Mountain – Somewhat of a surprise here as they are not making snow. They may be tipping their hand as well. They are open today with 10 trails and an Easter Egg Hunt today! Sugar is at least going to be open until TUESDAY, March 25th, and according to them they will make a decision about staying open beyong that – on Monday. (Hence the no snowmaking.)

VIRGINIA REPORT:

Bryce is now CLOSED for the season as they ceased snow ops after Saturday’s session.

Massanutten is closing on Tuesday for the snow season, but operates for day skiing and tubing today. Skiing offers 8 trails.

Wintergreen Resort will close after today’s sessions, but offer 5 trails of fun today. Anne Marie Jones writes, "Come join us for one of the most exciting weekends of the season, the Slide, Splash & Bash Party with the famous Pond Skimming taking place at 2:00 PM today. We are expecting clear and sunny skies with temperatures in the low to mid 40’s. Our current snow base depth is 10-20”. This is our last weekend for ski & snowboard operations, so come on out and enjoy the spring weather.

Slopes: Today we will be skiing and riding on 5 slopes and trails and 2 lifts will be running. Both Tubing Parks are closed for the season. The Dome is open today from 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM."

WEST VIRGINIA REPORT:

Canaan Valley will offer 15 trails today and close for the snow sports season after today’s Easter Sunday sessions.

Snowshoe is reporting the coldest temp we’re seeing this morning at 16° and they made snow. They offer 35 trails of enjoyment for today. Laura Parquette writes, "Happy Easter Everyone. It looks like winter is going to make at least one more appearance before the season is over. With just one week left, we had very cold overnight temperatures that allowed us to make snow across the basin area. As always, our groomers and snowmakers have been working very hard these last few weeks, and the conditions prove it. Temperatures should remain cold, at least overnight, for the next several days, and we may even see a natural flake or two. That means conditions should be great through the end of the season."

Timberline Resort has not posted their morning report just yet, but will no dount offer 23-24 trails for today.

Winterplace Resort – In a surprise move, Winterplace has announced that they are extending their season and will not close today as expected, but will remain open for skiing and tubing through March 30th. They have reduced their trail count to 27 for today. That is the first time they’ve not been 100% open in some time. It’s pretty impressive though that they have enough good snow to extended their season another seven days! Way to go Winterplace!

The only trail not open for today is the Blue slope – Hickory. All others as well as the Terrain park and tubing hill are ready to go and play on.

Wisp Resort offers 28 trails for today and loads of fun to boot. (See yesterday’s post for more information.)

That’s it for today as I am offer to enjoy the day with family and friends.

Have a great day, not matter what you choose to do today!
