It’s a beautiful day in the southeast today. You should get out there and go skiing or snowboarding. And if you for some reason can’t do that, you should get out there to watch some skiing or snowboarding.

The Oakley / Volcom Shred for the Cup Slopestyle Finals is today at Appalachian Ski Mountain. This is the last of three events, including a rail jam and big air competition.

Branson Winkler is in the lead for the men’s advanced snowboard division, and Zachary Kowalzyk leads the men’s advanced ski. Taylor Lambeth leads women snowboard, while Caroline Edwards leads the women’s ski division.

And Josh Cockerham is atop the standings for intermediate ski, with Sofia Maruszak at the top of intermediate snowboard.

Here’s what else you neeed to know about the southeast today:

Cataloochee

The ‘Cat is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pre-purchasing is highly recommended today, to avoid the risk of selling out.

Yesterday was the last day to cast a vote for the “I Am A Snowmaker” competition.

We’re overflowing with gratitude and want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who’ve been part of our journey. Your support has been our driving force. Don’t miss out on this last opportunity to cast your vote and make a difference. Let’s end this on a high note and bring this award home to our small town of Maggie Valley.

Here’s the video, if you haven’t seen it yet.

Sugar Mountain Resort

Snowmaking is back in progress. That will remain in progress as long as temperatures will allow. NASTAR will take place at noon on Oma’s Meadow. There are five lifts spinning and 20 trails open.

Looking ahead, Sugar will host the a sale for 2025 sample gear from Spyder on February 21. Samples are 30% off retail prices.

“Quantities and sizes are limited, so come early,” resort marketing said. “Prices you won’t find anywhere else! Spyder is the World’s leading winter apparel company.”

Wisp

It’s 34 degrees at Wisp today. There are 21 open trails, and all 12 lifts are spinning.

Happy Sunday! The sun will be shining all day on the mountain. The Mountain Ops Team is prepared to make snow throughout the week as conditions permit. See you on the slopes!”

Winterplace

It’s a beautiful day in West Virginia.

The craft beer showcase at the mountain house went off yesterday.

Winterplace is almost 100% open yet again today – 96% to be exact. There are 9 of 10 lifts open as well.

The Winterplace Local Showdown Race is today. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., and the race starts at 1 p.m.

Beech

It’s a beautiful morning for some park laps.

Hatley Pointe

Johnson City, Tennessee native and X Games alumna Brantley Mullins just dropped some more photos from the Recess shred session at Hatley Pointe.

“If I were you, I’d keep an eye out for what Hatley Pointe has got going on over there,” she said. “Thank you Deb Hatley for an amazing day and letting us rip the resort before its open and Conrad Fisher for putting in the cat work.”

And Appalachian Ski Mountain’s photographer and videographer Luke Berger joined for the session, and captured a ton of great photos.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of what comes out of Hatley Pointe before the launch day.

Timberline

Temperatures in the high 40s. Sunny terrain. 100% open terrain.

From the snow reporting team:

It’s another clear and sunny day here at Timberline Mountain! We have 100% of terrain open today, and all open terrain has been groomed. You’ll find a fast and sugary machine groomed surface that will improve throughout the day.”

It’s the final day of college weekend. Show your current College ID at the Ticket Window for discounted lift tickets and rental equipment specials!
• $60 for a single day
• $55 per day for two days
• $50 per day for all three days
• Rentals for $29 for a single day
• Rentals for $24 per day for 2-3 days

Snowshoe

There’s a 45 inch base and a sunny, 22 degree day at Snowshoe today. There are 58 open trails.

From the snow reporting team:

We may start to sound like a broken record over the next few days, but it’s going to be a beautiful day on the mountain! Sunshine and mild temperatures make for soft, playful snow conditions and that’s what we’ll be serving up. Temperatures did dip low enough overnight for a good set for our groomers so enjoy that scrumptious corduroy at rope drop. Head to Silver Creek for wider slopes, minimal lift lines, and good times all around! Widowmaker will be delayed as we host another round of SARA Racing today. The Cupp Run Challenge is going down tomorrow! Stick around and experience one of our favorite traditions here at Snowshoe.”

Video Of The Day

Matchstick Productions dropped its film “The Land Of Giants” earlier this year, and it has some pretty gnarly footage. MSP compiled all of its Alaska footage into one 4 minute YouTube segment. Take a look.

The Rest

Don’t forget: Clear your calendar from February 9-11. That’s when Massanutten and SkiSoutheast will host team up to host our summit. It’s a great way to meet like-minded, snow-loving people, and possibly make some lifelong friends in the process.
