Winter is Finally Here

Although Winter does not officially begin for another week or so, the temperatures are now saying otherwise. Most all of the resorts began making snow Friday (some Saturday). Temps warmed a bit yesterday and overnight lows prohibited some resorts from resuming their snowmaking efforts (See Ski Report) but temps are now on their way down…down…down. In fact the temperatures this morning will be THE HIGH for the day.

At 8am, Banner Elk was reporting 32°, Beech Mountain 25°, Boone 36° and Blowing Rock 33°. Areas west around Cataloochee were showing temps in the mid to upper 30s. Temperatures are now expected to drop all day and lows will be in the 14° to 18° range tonight. So expect ALL ski areas to begin making snow (if they already aren’t) as soon as temps allow…and continue to make snow around the clock through Friday at some point. Yes, temps will be that cold throughout this week! Yea!

The forecast for this weekend is expected to be beautiful, with normal temps and overnight lows that will allow additional snowmaking.

Winter IS HERE and now we can look forward to great ski conditions, more resorts opening throughout the week and more terrain to play on.
