Those words were the first I heard this morning at my office as Joe Stevens of Snowshoe Mountain called me with the exciting news that they were receiving natural snowfall and that the snowguns were already firing around that popular mountain resort.

"Mountain Ops have informed me that by noon today we will have over 200 snowguns pouring snow on the mountain," added Stevens.

It’s snowing in the Southeast! We’re seeing some spits of snow south…and the West Virginia resorts are reporting a good dusting of snow so far…to nearly 1/2 inch so far around Snowshoe, Canaan Valley and Timberline! The temps at Snowshoe and the West Virginia resorts have dropped into the mid 20s and snowmaking is in full force!

Working our way south – While Snowshoe and the West Virginia resorts are already seeing cold enough temperatures to make snow…the rest of the region, down into Virginia and North Carolina are now just getting into the 20s and snowguns are beginning to fire around the region.

Sugar Mountain fired up early this morning and we just got off the phone with Beech Mountain (8:40am) and according to the young lady that answered the phone they are "getting things ready to make snow any moment." We’re not certain WHY they wouldn’t ALREADY be ready…but we’ll go easy…we just want to say every flake of snow possible – WHENEVER POSSIBLE – to hit that mountain! The temperature up on Beech is 27° right now…so crank ’em up guys!

As of 8:40am the temperatures have not QUITE dropped enough for Appalachian, Cataloochee, Wolf Laurel, Sapphire Valley, or Ober Gatlinburg to begin making snow as yet.
