Well it was a WINDY one yesterday, although I don’t think it was nearly as windy as forecasters were warning us about. We saw gusts that were recorded in the 50mph range, which is pretty darn strong, but when you consider that forecasters were warning about 60-70 mph winds…then winds in the 40-50mph don’t seem so bad. We didn’t hear of anything more than a sporadic power outage or two.

The highest winds we saw were:

32mph at 7:20am in Foscoe
54mph at 3am in Boone
47mph at 3:29am in Blowing Rock
44mph at 6:30am on Beech Mountain
51mph at 5:35pm in Banner Elk
39mph at 7:50am on Sugar Mountain

Most areas are reporting that they received anywhere from the 4” of snow reported at Cataloochee, 4” up at Ski Beech, to 3” at Sugar Mountain – down to an inch or so at Appalachian and most of the High Country.  We saw right at 2” here in Sleepy Hollow.

The temps will be close to normal for today.  The high should be right on the normal of 41° and the overnight NORMAL low is 20° but we won’t quite get there. The record for today’s date is a high of 62° on this date in 1952 and the record low for this date was -4° in 1994. Believe it or not, the most snow recorded on this date was only 4” of snow back in 1982.  We have some big snow dates approaching in terms of history…and we’ll share those later in the week.

Here’s the forecast:

Sunday…Mostly sunny and windy. Highs near 40°. Northwest winds around 20 mph with higher gusts and Decreasing somewhat this afternoon.

Monday…Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid to upper 40s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Overnight low 38°

Tuesday…There is a chance of Showers and maybe even a thunderstorm, but don’t cancel your outdoor activities because this won’t be much. Highs in the upper 40s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Overnight low in the upper 30s to 42°

Wednesday…Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers. Highs in the upper 40s. Overnight low dropping into the 20s and that could cause a snow shower or two.

Thursday…Partly cloudy. Highs around 47°. Lows in the mid to upper 20s.

Friday…Partly cloudy. Highs around 50. Lows in the upper 20s.

Saturday…Partly cloudy. Highs around 50. Lows in the upper 20s.

Until Next Time!
