It has been a relatively quiet 24 hours at our member resorts – too quiet, I think something is up. OK, maybe that is just me trying to inject a little drama into my morning report. With a few exceptions, just about everyone had warm temps overnight preventing them from turning the guns on. But this is OK, as cold temps and snow are on the way.
A Winter Storm Watch is still in effect for most of the North Carolina and West Virginia resorts as well as Wisp in Maryland. Still calling for rain to switch over to snow this afternoon with predicted accumulations of 3-6” with up to 8” possible at the higher elevations. Needless to say the resorts are prepping for the return of snowmaking temps and to graciously welcome the natural stuff.
The timing for this could not be better. Snow developing this afternoon, tonight, and maybe tomorrow along with the cold temps means GREAT skiing and riding conditions will be in order for the weekend. Start packing now and reschedule your weekend plans (and maybe any Friday afternoon meetings).
If you haven’t had the chance to check out Brad Panovich’s weather forecast from a few days ago you should as he takes a deep dive into the snow we’re about to see. You can check out his ski forecast here. Our West Virginia skiing weatherman Herb Stevens also has an updated forecast that you shouldn’t miss. We’ve got you covered when it comes to what you can expect at the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic resorts.
As I said, a few or our resorts were able to pump out some snow yesterday. Cataloochee added 2” to their base and is skiing on 34-48”. Snowshoe opened up additional terrain with the green Yew Pine off of Powderidge at Snowshoe proper. This brings their open terrain up to 184 acres. Canaan is not to be left out and opened 1 more run while Wisp was able to add 2 more to the count – the green Little Dipper and the black Odin's Chute.
Winterplace West Virginia has a coupon that will get you $10 off a single day ticket or learn to ski/board package or $5 off tubing for this Saturday or Sunday. You need to print out the coupon below and present it to the cashier.
That’s it for me today. Like I said, a relatively quiet morning. I look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow!
Take care out there.
