If you like Spring Skiing conditions – You’ll be a HUGH fan of this week’s weather.

We are seemingly stuck in this recent pattern where we get a few days in a row of mild temps and a little light drizzle, followed by a couple of days of cold, followed again by mild weather and there’s nothing on the horizon that looks to be changing that.  We’ll see temps above normal through this week, followed by more NORMAL temps on Friday, followed by COLD temps and maybe a burst of snow showers on Saturday followed by MILD temps Sunday and into next week.

The forecast below is pretty consistent for all ski areas within the West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee and North Carolina higher elevations.  Snowshoe may see about 2-4 degrees colder…but for the most part this forecast should be very close.

Tuesday – Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers. Highs around 51° South winds 10 to 15 mph. Tonight expect light drizzle and 41°

Wednesday – Mostly cloudy with showers likely in the morning (60%) chance…Then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Windy with highs in the mid 50s. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent. wednesday night should drop to near freezing.  It will be borderline as to whether the ski areas can make snow.  We’re thinking not, but it will be close.

Thursday – Mostly sunny in the morning…Then becoming partly cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs in the upper 50s (we’re saying 57°) Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Overnight lows should be around 39°

Friday – Partly cloudy with a chance of rain showers in the morning…Then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs around 50° or so. Chance of rain 50 percent. Friday evening things could get a little snowy if one of two models takes effect…suggesting that more agreesive and colder air will hit.  Overnight low should be 28° allowing for natural snow and the snowguns to crank back up.

Saturday – The snowguns from the machines and the heavens should be going Saturday. Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers as it looks right now.  Some models are suggesting rain. It will be Windy. Cooler with highs in the mid 30s. Chance of precipitation 50 percent. Saturday nights low should be near 24° which means around the clock Snowmaking.

Sunday – Partly cloudy and breezy. Highs in the lower 50s. Lows in the lower 30s. Back to mild temps I’m afraid.
