Some New Features For SkiNC.com and SkiSoutheast.com!

First Trax

Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts!

We are just about ready to roll out all of the new contests as well as the rest of our programming tweaks to SkiNC and SkiSoutheast this year. You’ll hopefully notice some “face lift” tweaks such as cleaning up the front page to better organize all of the articles as well as our featured columnists, etc.

Speaking of columnists, we have debuted “Dave’s Raves and Rants” on the front of SkiNC.com. We’ve been running them on SkiSoutheast.com and had to do some additional programming to display them across both sites. “Dave’s Raves” is written by David McConnell who is well known to active SkiNC’ers. Dave has been around SkiNC for several years now and in addition to submitting tons of great photos, he has been the driving force to get a lot of the members of the messageboard to meet up on the slopes around the region.

David McConnell has been an avid telemark skier for years and has submitted numerous articles and photos to SkiNC and SkiSoutheast over the years. Dave is frequently on the SkiNC/SkiSoutheast messageboard and enjoys spending time assisting visitors with insight and helpful information.

Dave was the force behind the inaugural SkiNC Summit that took place at Hawksnest Ski Resort in North Carolina in 2004, and last year’s SkiNC Summit held at Ski Beech resort. Dave hails from Tennessee and enjoys skiing at Ober Gatlinburg, Cataloochee and most of the Southeast’s ski areas.

Dave also organized the SkiNC Utah Summit last season where he and numerous SkiNCers made the trek for some b–o–m–b–e–r conditions!

Dave has agreed to contribute to SkiNC/SkiSoutheast this season via a new "Dave’s Raves…and Rants" column.

Thanks for coming on board David.

New Promotional Videos are coming your way…right to the SkiNC and SkiSoutheast Channel!

Okay, we’re not movie producers around here…but over the years we’ve received some pretty decent footage from our visitors. A few years ago when digital movie cameras began showing up we started receiving some nice videos. We tried to encode the better ones and displayed them (they are still on the video page) however due to bandwidth and browser compatibility only the most savvy of visitors could see them. With technology enhancements that are now out there…we are able to produce and display your video submissions such that almost all visitors should be able to view them and with limited broadband issues. The result is going to be that we can show you – our visitors – what the slopes are looking like in even more ways than ever. Until the new season kicks in, we’ll be encoding some of your past submissions and creating some promotional videos of each of the resorts that we have received video for.

However once the 2006-2007 season kicks in, we’ll out on the slopes capturing frequently updated videos so you can see what your favorite ski area looked like within the last few days. We were the first to give you live cams, we were the first (and still provide the ONLY regularly updated) to show photos of the day for all ski areas of the Southeast…and now we’ll even be loading up great videos.

So if you haven’t visited before and you want to get a taste of what to expect…the videos should do the trick. We also WANT YOUR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS…so take your camera with you and send them to us at [email protected]  and we’ll post yours!

Cataloochee Ski Area got our juices flowing early and now we are only days away from Thanksgiving, Holiday skiing…so stay tuned as we roll out a lot of new content, features, contests and more!

Until Next time…
