If you’ve been reading and taking our advice about paying a visit to your favorite ski resort for the Thanksgiving Week and Weekend…then you’re planning to come to the mountains. If not – get to making plans because this week will be picture perfect for celebrating Thanksgiving, skiing and snowboarding, picking out a family Christmas Tree and/or just enjoying the mountains.
A visit to the mountain would be great anytime, but since this coming week is a Holiday Week AND since it is also the traditional start of ski season for resorts across the country…it couldn’t be better timed, because SNOW is in the forecast and COLD is forecasted for the entire forecasting period through December 5th or so.
We have employed some new technology that we plan to share with you guys over the next week, but for now just know that we have some amazing data collection tools that are forcasting snow squalls that should begin around 4am Tuesday morning (overnight Monday Night) and these COULD bring as much as 3-6" of snow throughout the day on Tuesday.
As far as snowmaking temps…don’t look for much in the way of snowmaking until Tuesday morning or so…and then expect good-to-excellent snowmaking ops around the region all the way through AT LEAST December 4th! That means GREAT conditions for the this weekend’s Thanksgiving Holiday and into December. You can expect most ALL of the resorts to crank up the guns!
Temps in North Carolina should be around freezing with lows around 19° and 3-6" of Snow on Tuesday. Wednesday looks a little "warmer" with temps around 34° for a high and lows around 30°. Thursday and Friday should be colder still although only a few degrees or so colder. The North Carolina mountains could see some snow flurries or snow showers Wednesday-Saturday.
The forecast further north into Virginia and West Virginia is for a little MORE COLD and a little less snow than forcasted for the North Carolina mountains for this particular system. Expect temps on Tuesday at Snowshoe to be around 30° for a high and with a low near 15°. They should see around 3" of snow according to the models we’re watching. Wednesday should be partly cloudy but cold. Thursday more of the same with highs in the 20s and lows Thursday around 17° and Friday around 13°!
So the weather is cooperating! Why not get your rear and your gear up here and partake of the great start!
Until Next Time!
