Snow has been falling from West Virginia down into the North Carolina mountains pretty much all morning. We’ve gotten reports from Snowshoe Mountain and also from atop Beech Mountain and Banner Elk this morning.
Andrea Smith, Communication Coordinator at Snowshoe Mountain Resort reported, "Snow is falling this morning from Beckley all the way up to the Eastern Allegheny Mountains. Here at Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County, West Virginia we have seen around a quarter of an inch of snow/sleet mix that continues to fall this morning."

Snowshoe Mountain is now planning on opening the slopes for the winter season on Wednesday, November 23rd!
Snow on Beech! We have received several reports of a dusting of snow on top of Beech and Sugar Mountains. We tuned in to the live cams (and went LIVE) and there is a light dusting on the ground…and moreso on the treetops! We also have received emails from on top of Howard’s Knob, which overlooks Boone…and several callers this morning are reporting that they are seeing some snow flying in downtown Boone and Banner Elk.
We haven’t heard from meteorologist, Brad Panovich yet (our SkiNC/SkiSoutheast season is still a couple of weeks away) but local weather guru, Ray Russell is saying that we’ll get a break in this first burst of snow and then another, more potent round of snow that will develop tonight.

In summary, Ray says to expect snow showers tonight and most of tomorrow. He also says that because the ground is still too warm to HOLD the snow, we won’t see quite as much accummulation as is actually falling. Even with that he is saying to expect as much as 2" to 5" of snow with even more possible by Wednesday morning.
Ski season is still some time away but this will definately get people in the mood!

We had mentioned the shirts as coming soon on the messageboard and so far the comments have been very cool to see! We’ve been very busy putting some NEW TOUCHES on the SkiNC and SkiSoutheast websites, and installing an ALL-NEW email server to handle the load we’ve received over the last couple of years…so we haven’t gotten back in touch with those of you who emailed wanting one. We will do that this week.
