As of this post (7:29am) the snow is falling across the High Country.  It is another beautiful snowfall with no wind at this time and we have a pretty good coating of snow on the ground.  Brad Panovich provided his update last night and things still looked the same at that time – he is still forecasted 3-5” of snow for the higher elevations of Western North Carolina and less the further NORTH you go.

NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS :

Today’s HIGH will stick to about where we are right now, so we’ll call today’s high at 30°.  The low tonight will be near 15°.  We’re going to stick with Meteorologist Brad Panovich’s forecast of the last two days and say that we’ll get that 3” to 5” of snow. Sunday will provide a break between storms as the sun comes out and probably melts away the good snow in the areas where the sun hits.  Highs Sunday will be near freezing.  The low Sunday night will be around 24°. The second round of Snow hits Monday and Tuesday…with some carry over snow or wintry mix on Wednesday.  Highs Monday will be near freezing and lows around 28°.  Brad says to look for another 2-4” of snow on Monday or so and the NWS says that Monday’s snow could be mixed with a little sleet or freezing rain. So we could see 5-9” of snow from today through Tuesday, but because of the warmer ground temps from Thursday and the sun popping out on Sunday – it may end up looking a little less.

MIGRATING NORTHWARD TO WINTERGREEN RESORT:

They will see light snow today, most in the AM hours then partly cloudy this afternoon.  Highs will get to about 35° and drop to 10° or so tonight.  Lots of manmade snow is in that forecast!  Sunday will be sunny with a high of 34° and Sunday night’s low will be around 20°.  Monday and Tuesday look a little milder with variably cloudy skies and highs in the 40s and lows in the mid to upper 20s.

LET’S SKIP OVER TO GATLINBURG:

Ober Gatlinburg has seen a lot more of winter this season that the past couple of years and that trend continues.  They should see a little mixed wintry precip today and temps will dive to 19° tonight.  Sunday will be sunny and cold with highs around 35° and lows near 24°.  Monday looks like SNOW for Ober Gatlinburg and highs just above freezing and lows in the mid 20s.  Tuesday through Thursday looks like more wintry mix of light rain and snow.

WE’LL HEAD TO SNOW COUNTRY, I MEAN SNOWSHOE NEXT!:

Snowshoe is getting snow right now and it should continue on and off most of the day.  They are not expected to see a lot in the way of accumulation because most of the moisture in this system is further south…but Snowshoe has a way of hogging snow, so we’ll see.  The high today should be around 21° dropping to near ZERO tonight!  Sunday and Monday should be Sunny with highs in the teens and 20s and the lows in the teens.

WISP RESORT IN MARYLAND IS LAST IN OUR WEATHER TOUR THIS MORNING:

Wisp will also see a snow today, and maybe some sun later in the day.  Highs today will stick around the low 20s and drop to near ZERO tonight.  That will make for some awesome snowmaking!  Sunday through Wednesday look Partly Cloudy with highs Sunday in the teens to 20° and the low Sunday night around 10°.  Monday will be in the 20s, Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the 30s.

Enjoy the snow and the cold…and happy skiing…

Until Next Time!
