Rain Turned to Snow…See How Much and Where

Saturday was not pretty. I saw a couple of Facebook photo posts that were supposedly posted yesterday and they just weren’t. By the way those posts were not from any of the resorts as far as I know. It just appeared a couple of people where posting favorite photos and the timing could not have been worse, because it was a rainy day at most every ski area on Saturday.

Things were damp and foggy as I was posting the Snow Report on Saturday morning and I left home for most of the day only to witness pretty moderate rainfall and all around nasty conditions. I checked many of the rain gauges that are provided by weather stations that dot the area and we saw 1.46″ of rain on Saturday and Beech and Sugar Mountains. That didn’t make for great playing on the snow for sure.

The latest Daily Hydrometeorological report has not posted via the NWS, (I will check those later) but suffice to say that it was a wet day across most of the region.

…AND NOW A LITTLE SNOW IS FALLING…

Here’s where and how much…

Appalachian Ski Mountain – Trace
Beech Mountain Resort – 0.7″
Sugar Mountain Resort – 0.7″
Cataloochee Ski Area – Trace
Canaan Valley Resort – 1.2″ and still snowing
Snowshoe Mountain – 1″ still snowing
Wisp Resort – 0.7″

* Sugar Mountain is reporting 2″ of snow this morning and now 5.2″ on the season and that is just NOT the case. Not sure who is handling that chore at Sugar this season, but they’ve already been overzealous twice this season. We have two reporters who work and/or live at the top of the mountain and they are reporting .7″. CoCoRaHs is reporting a TRACE this morning.

Much Better Day to Play for Sunday…

Check the SNOW REPORT for the full deets, but we have these ski areas operating for today and the experience should be tons better.

Appalachian Ski Mountain – 8 slopes, day & night sessions
Beech Mountain Resort – 5 slopes, day sessions only
Cataloochee Ski Area – 5 slopes, day sessions only
Sugar Mountain Resort – 7 slopes, day & night sessions
Snowshoe Mountain – 11 slopes, day sessions only
Bryce Resort – 2 slopes open, day sessions only
Massanutten Resort – 3 slopes open, day sessions only
Ober Gatlinburg is open for tubing only right now
