Good Morning skiers, snowboarders, telemarkers, and tubers. It’s Friday February 12th and conditions across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic could not be better for the up coming Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend. We got a “snow day” here at SkiSoutheast and I was finally able to get some first tracks yesterday instead of writing the “first trax” article. Even though Sugar was groomed there were some hidden stashes of deep powder that I found left on Whoopdedoo and Tom Terrific that ended up in my face on a few turns. Those of you that went to Beech no doubt enjoyed what had to be some epic conditions found up there. Appalachian Mountain had to be sweet as well. App will continue its Midnight Blast sessions this weekend and stay open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Be sure to take advantage of that if you’re in NC skiing at App this weekend to avoid some of the crowds.

More snow has fallen in the last 24 hours at a few resorts. Wisp received another 6 inches so that makes 66.5 inches in the last 7 days! Snowshoe Mountain got another 4 inches and Canaan Valley and Timberline each got 5.5 inches yesterday as well. With most resorts at or well above their average snow for the season and with 6 weeks still left in the season it will be interesting to see how much we actually end up with when it’s all said and done.

The forecast for the next nine days shows a chance of snow everyday for Banner Elk, NC. Everyone visiting ski resorts for the weekend and holiday will see snow and more snow.

Sunday Beech Mtn. will feature the second installment of the Edge of the World contests series with boardercross and slopestyle events.

Wisp resort will hold the Burton Friday Night Rail Jam tonight open to skiers and boarders with an open style format in the Pro Park.

Snowshoe Mountain this weekend will have live music, karaoke, bingo and movies. Also an ice-cream social and Teen Dance will be held. A comedy performance from comedian Michael Rosman will be on Sunday so be sure to check Snowshoemtn.com for the specifics on these events that will no doubt be fun for the whole family.

Canaan Valley offers a Valentines Getaway special on lodging and dinner. A performance by Nina Sharp and a Rail Jam sponsored by Highland Prospects happening Saturday.

Timberline Resort will feature three days of live entertainment until 2am at Timbers Pub with fantastic conditions.

Winterplace Resort offers gift cards for that special someone with off and on snow throughout the day today and some amazing conditions to enjoy over the weekend.
Wintergreen Resort will hold its Freestyle Demo Days on Saturday the 13th a Freestyle Double Cross Race on Sunday and the USSA Slalom Race on the 15th. Also on the 12th the fourth scheduled Wintergreens Women’s Clinic. They should have some nice weather this weekend.

Massanutten Resort will enjoy live music from Jimmy-O and Surreal and feature karaoke on the 13th. A wine tasting and craft fair will be held on Monday along with a magic and illusions show in the conference center.

So these are just a few updates on some weekend events from around the region. Check your resort websites for details and specifics, but definitely plan on skiing or boarding this weekend. We’ll keep you updated here as often as possible on current and future events happening at resorts across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic.

We’re on day 76 and there are 61 more days of opportunities to enjoy the snow for the 2009-2010 ski and snowboarding season!

That’s it for today. Go enjoy the snow! Check out the Snow Report at https://www.skisoutheast.com/skireports.php and please send us your favorite ski photos, ski videos, trip reports and comments to [email protected]
