Happy Weekend everyone! Today is day 1 of the big President’s Day weekend for the resorts and it could not have come in much better as there is fresh snow at all of our member resorts.
Here is where we stand this morning with the natural snowfall:
Appalachian Ski Mountain: 2”
Cataloochee Ski Area: 2” and snowing
Beech Mountain: 2” and snowing
Sapphire Valley: Trace and snowing
Sugar Mountain: 3” and snowing
Wolf Ridge: 0.6” and snowing
Bryce Resort: 3”
Massanutten Resort: Trace and snowing
The Homestead: Trace
Wintergreen Resort: 2” and snowing
Canaan Valley Resort: 2.2” and snowing
Snowshoe Mountain: 3” and snowing
Timberline Resort: 2.2” and snowing
Winterplace Ski Resort: 1” and snowing
Wisp Resort: 5”
Ober Gatlinburg: 0.6”
What an incredible week we’ve had, and the snow just keeps coming. Most of our member resorts are under a Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning until 1pm this afternoon, with generally 1-3” of additional snow expected! The 5” that Wisp is reporting puts them above 100 inches for the year! That club is getting bigger and bigger everyday.
The resorts are operating at or near capacity as this is their weekend to shine. Snowshoe is opening the Knot Bumper Glades and Flying Eagle Glades today which will bring their slope count up to 59 of 60. The only run not currently open at Snowshoe is Sawmill Glades. Cataloochee has been opening The Meadows for the past couple of days and we’re waiting this morning for word on todays’ status.
Taking a tour of the resort cams this morning shows a lot of activity at the resorts…

… with skiers and boarders already starting to queue up.

I’d like to show you guys more pictures of the great slope conditions but to be honest it is pretty foggy out there still. The clouds should burn off a bit as the day progresses, but expect clouds and snow today!
Sochi Olympic Update
With all of the snow falling here in the Southeast, we’ve been neglecting the Olympics as of late. We currently have a 3-way tie for 4th place:
1 – GER: 12 Medals, 7 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze
2 – SUI: 7 Medals, 5 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze
3 – CAN: 11 Medals, 4 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze
4 – NED: 13 Medals, 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze
4 – NOR: 13 Medals, 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze
4 – USA: 13 Medals, 4Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze
Did you guys catch that we swept the Mens’ Ski Slopestyle with Joss Christensen taking gold, Gus Kenworthy taking Silver, and Nicholas Goepper taking bronze? This sweep is the 3rd for us in the Winter Olympics with the last happening in 2002 with the men’s halfpipe, and the 1st in 1956 with men’s figure skating.
It is going to be a great President’s Day Weekend. Get out there and enjoy it if you can!
Take Care!
