The roller coaster ride that Old Man Winter has been taking us on continues this week! The next stop in this amusement park of weather events that he has setup for us is – WINTERVILLE! Today will be the kind of day that yesterday was for the mountains of North Carolina. Brilliant sunshine and temps near 50°. Actually today will be a bit chillier at around 45° or so. Then the clouds will begin to roll in this afternoon and that’s about all the clear skies will see for a few days as SNOW comes in again around midnight. The low tonight should be around 26° and the forecast is for SNOW Wednesday, Thursday and much of Friday. Right now the forecast is for anything from 3" to 6" of snow…and locally higher amounts at the highest elevations.

The forecast for this weekend is for MORE Winter weather as the next winter event that blows through here could be more significant than this one of the next couple of days. Forecasters are mixed…and Brad Panovich has been placed on the missing persons list so we haven’t gotten his inout as yet. Brad, you out there? Calling Austin Beeghly…hey guys we need some expert weather gurus in here!

Forecasters are somewhat divided over the next system that is coming our way. Right now another low appears to be ready to form in it’s wake Thursday giving us another chance for snow. THAT event could be more significant, but we’ll have to wait a couple of days and see how this first one all places out. Regardless, the temperatures are cooperating with those of us that want to prolong Winter. Highs Tuesday through Sunday look to be in the low to upper 30s. Lows should be in the mid to upper 20s throughout the same period. With this being the last leg of Winter, it is doubtful that you’ll see any snowguns firing so this week and weekend could be as good as it gets even for MID-WINTER. The snow will be firm (probably groomed) and Mother Nature will be providing some additional snowfall to give us some sweet snow to carve.

Here’s some Resort Notes

Appalachian – Reports are that the snow over there is awesome baby (I’m in my Midnight Madness Mode) and simply could not be better. According to Appy’s website they project making snow tonight. However they would not make snow during ski sessions…so we’re getting the best of both worlds. Perfect ski conditions and more manmade snow on top of whatever Mother Nature provides.

Ski Beech – Skiing in March has always been a treat, but this season has been exceptional. Ski Beech has had thirty three inches of natural snow so far this month as of the 15th, and they have had snowmaking this month as well. With more snow on the way, we’re thinking that the Ski Beech Powder Train may hit the slopes a few more times yet. TODAY is "Two for Tuesday" You get TWO for One adult day or twilight lift tickets today!

NOTE: For those of you who keep asking us about Ski Beech staying open until the 27th, we’d say get up there and ski and that might just prompt them to stay open another week. Word is that they may call it quits this Sunday, the 20th. Want to change that? SKI! The conditions are GREAT and will only get BETTER with added snows.

Sugar Mountain – Sugar is in one word — SWEET —- right now with the most open terrain in the state. (19) slopes and trails and over four feet of snow covers all of the trails. (More in some areas!)

Enjoy a great day on the slopes today and if you are considering a trip up for this week or weekend…get to it…the conditions are and will be great through Sunday…with cold and snow!

See you on the slopes.
