Around 4 am this past Saturday morning, Old Man Winter’s alarm clock went off and finally cold temperatures and natural snow arrived at the Pocahontas County Resort. Over the weekend, seven inches of snow fell on the Resort turning everything white and the cold temperatures gave the snowmakers the conditions they have been waiting for. For awhile, Snowshoe Mountain was providing the only skiing and riding south of New York.

On Monday, over 200 guns were pumping out man-made snow and Mother Nature was pumping it out of the sky. As of late Monday, the season snowfall total finally reached the one foot mark, thanks to the ten inches of snow from Saturday to Monday evening. More lake affect snow is expected on and off the rest of the week.

Now for a conditions report, they are getting better by the hour. By this coming weekend we will be providing over 30 trails at the Snowshoe and Silver Creek Areas. Our veteran snowmakers and groomers are pushing the envelope in getting trails open as quick as possible. While some resorts are opening with a less then a foot of base, our trails are opening with a two to three foot base.

For SnowboardersThe Spruce Glades Terrain Park is set to open this Thursday. Up until now, that trail has been used for skiing and riding terrain. The first features will be a couple of rails and a couple of table tops. The new Park Manager, Bruce Persinger has got his act together and you can expect huge things this year at the resort’s three parks. This will be the first park open in the region.

Take a Virtual Tour of Snowshoe-Have you checked out the new Snowshoe Mountain Virtual Trail Map yet? This thing is very cool. Go to the Snow Report page and click on the Map Button. (www.SnowshoeMtn.com).

Great Savings Here is a pretty good deal, through this Thursday, December 16, Adult, Senior and Student lift tickets are $25 and children under 12 tickets are $15. It looks like all of the weather guessers are saying the cold weather will be with us through Christmas. Let’s hope so.

We’re Number One – Again! Again this year, SKI Magazine says Snowshoe Mountain is ‘Number One in the Southeast Region’. Time to make a trip to the region’s largest winter resort and find out why.
