The history of Massanutten Resort VA began in the 1800s, when city-dwellers flocked to the valley to escape the unsanitary conditions of the crowded, dusty cities. Gerard T. Hopkins saw that he could profit well by creating a place for city folks to enjoy the serenity of the valley, so in 1875, he built a health resort which he called Rockingham Springs. Two generations later, Hopkins’s great-grandson, a Virginia farmer named John L. Hopkins, II, resurrected the idea and turned Rockignham Springs into what people all over the world know today as Massanutten Resort VA.

Located deep within the Shenandoah Valley in beautiful Massanutten VA, the resort’s long, rich history only adds to its renown as one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most prestigious ski and winter sports resorts. Visitors flock from all over the United States and beyond to experience the idea snowboarding, snow tubing and Massanutten Ski conditions.
