Get out today if you can!  Great conditions are the story for today at all of the area resorts.  A few clouds will greet you this morning with more joining the party as the day progresses.  Starting tonight, there is a 90+% chance of rain across just about all of the resorts, with Wisp as the lone exception.  Wisp has a 90% chance of a wintery mix tomorrow with the remainder of our member resorts looking at a 100% chance of rain.  So, get out today if you can!

Now that we have the gloom and doom out of the way – the start to next week is looking very good.  Snowmaking temps will return on Monday with a chance of snow for Wisp up in Maryland, all of West Virginia, all of North Carolina, and Ober in Tennessee.  Snowmaking conditions will remain in affect all of next week with the return of a chance of snow in the forecast later in the week.

With all of this being said, what are your plans for New Year’s Eve?  The conditions at the ski resorts are going to be just about perfect.  Lots of snow has been laid down over the past week or so with new terrain daily.  The snowmaking temps on Monday, along with the chance of snow, will allow the slopes to freshen up from the Sunday rain and get us back to the pristine Southeast ski conditions we’ve become accustomed to.  I’ve updated our Events Page with the New Year’s Eve celebrations at Ober, Appalachian, Beech, Sugar, Bryce, Massanutten, Wintergreen, Canaan Valley, Showshoe, & Timberline.  It’s this time of year especially that I miss Hawksnest.  I spent many a New Year’s Eve on the 3rd floor!

Ok, let’s get to what we can expect out there on the slopes today.  Warmer weather settled in yesterday and last night so a number of the resorts did not fire up the guns.  Appalachian and Ober Gatlinburg are among that later group, but that does not mean the conditions at either of these resorts today is anything but stellar.

The big movers for today are Wintergreen, Canaan, Winterplace, and Snowshoe.  Wintergreen opened up 2 more (black diamond) runs with Upper Wild Turkey and Cross Cut.  Canaan Valley opened up 2 runs of their own with the diamond Weiss Meadow 1 and the blue Easy Does It.  Winterplace joined the group by opening 2 runs as well, while Snowshoe opened an additional run at Silver Creek with the blue, Foxchase.

In the North Carolina High Country, Oz run at Beech MountainBeech and Sugar both added about 2” to their bases.  Beech took it one step further and opened up OZ.  OZ is a really nice run which kinda goes off the side of Beech with views that will take you back.

Take care out there today and don’t forget to update us with your trip reports.  Kenny went to Massanutten yesterday.  Talk to you again tomorrow.
