Natural Snow Fell in a rather fickle way on Saturday as areas in the North Carolina Mountains got a bit more than MOST of the resorts further north.  Only Wintergreen Resort in Virginia reported ANY snow and they had just one inch of new snowfall…and yet Snowshoe received 3”, Timberline and Canaan got 2” and then WISP Resort in Maryland was blessed with 4”.

Here’s what each of the resorts reported in with and we also included their season’s snowfall total as well:

Appalachian Ski Mountain – 2” – 29”
Cataloochee Ski Area – 2” – 55”
Hawksnest Ski Resort – 4” – 52”
Ski Beech Resort – 4” – 59”
Sugar Mountain – 4” – 53”
Wolf Laurel Slopes – 2” – 33”
Wintergreen Resort – 1” – 31”
Canaan Valley – 2” – 105”
Snowshoe Mountain – 3” – 132”
Timberline Resort – 2” – 105”
Winterplace Resort – 3” – 72”
Wisp Resort – 4” – 99”
Ober Gatlinburg – 1” – 27”

All ski areas across the Southeast are reporting in with temps in the single digits and teens this morning.  The coldest reading this morning was up at Snowshoe where at 6am the temps was MINUS 6°!!!  Wisp Resort in Maryland is showing MINUS 4°! Tiffany Keith, who is holding down some of the reporting tasks until new PR gal Sara Lovejoy starts her new duties Monday says, “It was 2 degrees at 6am, so yes, the cold air has arrived. Snowmaking efforts overnight have been fantastic. Imagine the quantity of snow that can be made when it is 2 degrees. On second thought, don’t try and imagine it, come see for yourselves. We are making piles and piles because we plan to ski and ride all the way into April and finish out the season with our April 1st and 2nd Wicked Huge Park Party and more. All of our trails are open; they have been groomed overnight and are in great condition for some mid-winter fun. The bumps on Upper Wild Turkey keep getting better and better so come check them out! The Plunge and the Slide are open today with 2 hour sessions starting at 10am for some thrilling tubing. Don’t forget about Freestyle’s Demo day today. Come check out the latest ski and snowboard equipment for free at the top of the Big Acorn Lift.

Ski Beech received 4” of natural snow on Saturday and conditions will be packed powder and frozen granular in all 15 trails.  They will have 8 lifts operating and one of those is their high speed quad which will help to move those huge President’s Day weekend crowds!  Ski Beech has received a state-leading 59” of natural snowfall on the season thus far.

Wolf Laurel Ski Resort is in beautiful shape today after 2” fell on Saturday.  That takes them to 33” of snow on the season and they are in great shape for today with all 12 trails operating.  The great little family resort is enjoying a phenomenal season and conditions will be super sweet today!
