COLD is the word for today! All ski areas across the Southeast are reporting in with temps in the single digits and teens this morning. The coldest reading this morning was up at Snowshoe where at 6am the temps was MINUS 6°!!! Wisp Resort in

Here’s some notes of interest for today:
WISP RESORT IN MARYLAND – received 4” of new snow from Saturday and that takes them to 99” of snow on the season. Today will offer sweet, packed powder conditions on 33 trails. Conditions couldn’t get much better up there!
Timberline Resort reported 2-3”” of snow on Saturday and that takes them to 117” on the season, which is the same as neighboring Canaan Resort…and just under the natural snow touring center of White Grass. Timberline will be in phenomenal shape today!
Winterplace Resort got in on the snowfall on Saturday as the more south you went, the more moisture there was for snowfall on this system. They received 3’ of snow and that takes them to 72” of snow on the season. They have packed powder conditions on 27 trails!
Only Wintergreen Resort of the four Virginia Ski Areas picked up natural snow but all are in great shape today!
Bryce Resort in
Massanutten Resort is making tons of snow and conditions will be great on 13 trails with 6 lifts servicing them. Expect groomed conditions and a strong base of 30-55”
Wintergreen Resort received an inch of natural snow on Saturday and they blasted their trails as well. Tiffany Keith, who is holding down some of the reporting tasks until new PR gal Sara Lovejoy starts her new duties Monday says, “It was
2 degrees at 6am, so yes, the cold air has arrived. Snowmaking efforts overnight have been fantastic. Imagine the quantity of snow that can be made when it is 2 degrees. On second thought, don’t try and imagine it, come see for yourselves. We are making piles and piles because we plan to ski and ride all the way into April and finish out the season with our April 1st and 2nd Wicked Huge Park Party and more. All of our trails are open; they have been groomed overnight and are in great condition for some mid-winter fun. The bumps on Upper Wild Turkey keep getting better and better so come check them out! The Plunge and the Slide are open today with 2 hour sessions starting at 10am for some thrilling tubing. Don’t forget about Freestyle’s Demo day today. NORTH CAROLINA SKI AREAS:
Appalachian
Cataloochee Ski Area got their phone problems repaired early Saturday morning so their communication nightmare was resolved quickly. Cat made snow and they also received 2” of new natural snow and they have now received 55” of snow on the season! They are 100% open today and since this is a holiday weekend, they WILL be open for night skiing tonight as well.
Hawksnest Resort did not make snow and allowed their visitors to enjoy the hill unabated by snowguns. Hawksnest received right at 4” of new snow and that takes them to 52” on the season. 11 of 12 trails are open plus their popular tubing park. The only trail not open as yet is Old Blue. Expect perfect conditions at Hawksnest today.
Sapphire has not updated with any reporting service since Friday. You can bet the conditions are very nice however. Two trails will be operating today and the Frozen Falls Tubing Area.
Ski Beech received 4” of natural snow on Saturday and conditions will be packed powder and frozen granular in all 15 trails. They will have 8 lifts operating and one of those is their high speed quad which will help to move those huge President’s Day weekend crowds! Ski Beech has received a state-leading 59” of natural snowfall on the season thus far.
Wolf Laurel Ski Resort is in beautiful shape today after 2” fell on Saturday. That takes them to 33” of snow on the season and they are in great shape for today with all 12 trails operating. The great little family resort is enjoying a phenomenal season and conditions will be super sweet today!
Go get ‘em! If you get out early you can make a few turns without much of a lift line! By mid morning expect lift lines!
